Budapest!

Yesterday morning I got home from a weekend trip to Budapest, Hungary!
The two highlights of the trip were going to the Széchenyi Fürdő bath house on our first day, and then going to see a ballet of Gone With the Wind at the absolutely gorgeous Hungarian State Opera House.

When we arrived on Friday afternoon, we headed straight for one of the bath houses that Budapest is famous for. The place was ginormous, yellow, and gorgeous. There's halls and halls full of indoor baths, but they were kind of creepy and smelled strange. The outside bath, however, was a crazy marvelous experience. It was about 30 degrees Fahrenheit, and we had to jump over piles of snow to get into the water, which was interesting. Sitting in the super-warm water with the upper half of you in 30 degree wind is a surprisingly great feeling! (Being completely in the cold, however, was not... but I am willing to suffer for photographic documentation.)
Sunday night we saw Gone With the Wind, and let me tell you I ALMOST DIED OF EXCITEMENT. I love Gone With the Wind and I love ballerinas, and when you put them together you get HOOP SKIRT TUTUS! (Actually, there was a sad lack of anything hoop-skirt-like, but it was okay because it was still awesome.) I wore a dress that I borrowed from my little sister, not only because the skirt is fluffy and tu-tu like, but also because I had seen a couple of pictures of the interior of the opera house beforehand and realized that my dress matched it. How could I have passed up the opportunity to match my dress to my destination?? Besides, there's no such thing as being overdressed. =]

Okay, now prepare yourself for lots of shiny gilded things:

My dress in all its fluffy glory!

Aaaaaaand here's a zillion more pictures from the rest of the trip!
Street candy vendor! I have discovered a new love--marzipan balls! (I chose the pink with sprinkles! It tasted like bubblegum and cookie.)
The largest (and probably prettiest) synagogue in Europe!

Pretending to be a gypsy and soaking in the effects of the "Tea of Eternal Life"
